Nicholson features as 10-man Motherwell snatch late point against Rangers
Sam Nicholson and Motherwell FC staged a dramatic late intervention on Wednesday night, earning a 1–1 draw against Rangers at Fir Park despite finishing the match with 10 men. The former Minnesota United winger entered the fray in the dying minutes, helping his side push for the equalizer that ultimately arrived in the 89th minute to dent Rangers’ title hopes.
Match recap
The visitors wasted no time asserting control, taking the lead after just six minutes through Nicolas Raskin, who slotted home a pass from Mohamed Diomande. Rangers dominated much of the first half and looked poised to see out a professional victory, especially after Motherwell’s task became significantly harder in the second half.
In the 78th minute, Motherwell midfielder Lukas Fadinger was shown a red card, seemingly killing off any hope of a comeback. However, the Steelmen refused to crumble. Throwing bodies forward in desperate search of a point, they found their miracle in the 89th minute when defender Stephen Welsh fired home from close range to level the score at 1–1.
The result keeps Motherwell in 4th place (44 points), while Rangers remain in 2nd (52 points), losing crucial ground in the title race.
