Reynoso’s late cameo not enough as Cali falls 3–2 to Inter de Bogotá
Emanuel Reynoso and Deportivo Cali walked away empty-handed from a chaotic five-goal thriller on Wednesday night, falling 3–2 to surprise league-leaders Internacional de Bogotá at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo. The former Minnesota United star started on the bench and was introduced late in the second half, but he was unable to rescue a result for a Cali side that had surrendered a lead just moments before his arrival.
Match recap
In a match billed as a test of Internacional’s title credentials, the hosts proved their mettle. Deportivo Cali struck first, silencing the Bogota crowd, but Inter responded in the 32nd minute through C. Vivas to level the score at 1–1 going into halftime.
The second half was a breathless affair. Cali regained the lead, looking poised to take three points on the road. However, the game turned on its head in a frantic two-minute spell. L. Vásquez equalized for Inter in the 70th minute to make it 2–2, and before Cali could regroup, J. Valencia fired home the winner just two minutes later (72′), sealing a dramatic 3–2 victory for the hosts.
Reynoso’s performance
With his team suddenly trailing after the rapid-fire double blow, manager Hernán Torres turned to Reynoso in the 77th minute to salvage a point.
-
The shift:Â Reynoso played the final 13 minutes plus stoppage time, replacing a defensive midfielder as Cali threw everything forward.
-
The context:Â He entered a chaotic game state where Inter was happy to sit deep and defend their lead.
-
The impact:Â "Bebelo" showed flashes of his quality, delivering two dangerous crosses into the box and linking play in the final third, but he couldn't unlock the packed Inter defense before the final whistle. It was a frustrating cameo for the playmaker, who was left to watch the damage be done from the sideline before being asked to fix it with too little time on the clock.
Up next
Deportivo Cali will need to lick their wounds quickly as they look to correct their defensive issues. They return home to the Estadio Deportivo Cali for their next fixture, where Reynoso will hope his brief cameo earns him a return to the starting XI.
