Hunou's late cameo not enough as Clermont Foot suffers 2–1 defeat to Rodez
Adrien Hunou and Clermont Foot experienced a devastating finish on Friday afternoon, falling 2–1 to Rodez AF at the Stade Gabriel Montpied. Despite a dream start in front of their home supporters, Clermont surrendered a late goal to drop all three points.
Match recap
Clermont Foot looked eager to set the tempo early and were rewarded almost immediately. Veteran forward Famara Diédhiou found the back of the net just six minutes into the match, giving the hosts a massive boost of confidence.
However, Rodez slowly worked their way back into the game. Just before the halftime whistle, Taïryk Arconte leveled the score in the 45th minute, shifting the momentum entirely. The second half was a tense, back-and-forth battle with both sides chasing a crucial three points. Just as the match looked destined for a draw, Rodez's Kenny Nagera delivered the final blow in the 90th minute, snatching a dramatic 2–1 victory for the visitors and leaving the Clermont faithful stunned.
Hunou’s performance
Manager Grégory Proment turned to the former Minnesota United playmaker late in the second half in hopes of breaking the 1–1 deadlock.
- The shift: Hunou entered the pitch in the 76th minute, playing the final 14 minutes of the contest.
- The impact: The attacking midfielder struggled to get fully involved in the chaotic final minutes of the match, recording just six touches and completing one of his three pass attempts. Unfortunately, he was on the pitch as Rodez mounted their final attack and scored the decisive goal in the 90th minute.
Up next
Hunou and Clermont Foot must regroup quickly as they look to bounce back from this frustrating home defeat. Securing three points in their next Ligue 2 fixture will be absolutely critical to avoid slipping further down the table.
