Report: Christian Ramirez picked up off waivers by Austin FC

The waiver process didn’t keep Christian Ramirez waiting long. According to a report from Tom Bogert, Austin FC has signed the veteran forward just days after he was waived by the LA Galaxy.

A quick turnaround in Texas

The 34-year-old striker became a surprise late addition to the waiver wire right before the start of the 2026 MLS season. Bogert recently noted that Ramirez was an unfortunate casualty of the Galaxy needing to become roster compliant, which led to the sudden buyout of his contract over the weekend. That roster crunch in Los Angeles has now turned into a strategic acquisition for Austin FC, who scooped him up as several teams reportedly showed interest during the waiver process.

Bringing championship experience

A proven goalscorer in MLS, the Santa Ana native brings a wealth of experience and a championship pedigree to his new club. Ramirez has tallied 55 regular-season goals throughout his MLS career, which features notable stints with Minnesota United, LAFC, Houston Dynamo, Columbus Crew, and the LA Galaxy. He recently played a crucial role under Wilfried Nancy in Columbus, helping the Crew capture both the 2023 MLS Cup and the 2024 Leagues Cup.

By securing the veteran, Austin FC adds a reliable presence and valuable attacking depth for their 2026 campaign. For the former Loon affectionately known as “Superman,” the move to Texas provides a fresh opportunity to continue his long-standing track record of finding the back of the net in Major League Soccer.
