Edwards returns home as Toronto FC secures his signature
Toronto FC announced on Tuesday that they have acquired veteran defender Raheem Edwards after he was waived by Red Bull New York. The move brings the 30-year-old left back full circle, returning him to the Greater Toronto Area where he first launched his professional career.
A familiar face in the GTA
Edwards initially featured for Toronto from 2016 to 2017, registering one goal and seven assists in 27 appearances across all competitions. Since then, the former Canadian international has built an extensive resume, making 201 regular-season appearances across seven different MLS clubs and recording eight goals and 26 assists. Last season with Red Bull New York, he contributed two assists in 24 matches.
Toronto FC General Manager Jason Hernandez expressed his excitement about the reunion, noting that the hometown native will bring the fire, competitiveness, and defensive push that the club’s supporters demand. Edwards and his new teammates are currently preparing for their 2026 MLS season opener, where the Reds will be hunting for their first Audi MLS Cup Playoffs berth since 2020.
