Kmeť makes late cameo as DAC crumbles against Slovan Bratislava
Matúš Kmeť and DAC 1904 suffered a heavy 3–0 defeat at the hands of rivals Slovan Bratislava on Saturday at the MOL Aréna. The former Minnesota United defender entered the match late in the second half, but the damage had long been done as DAC fell apart following a red card to Julien Eymard Bationo.
Match recap
The highly anticipated clash between the top two teams in Slovakia turned into a nightmare for the hosts. Slovan took control early when Artur Gajdoš opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Just before halftime, Mykola Kukharevych doubled the lead from the penalty spot, sending DAC into the break down 2–0.
Any hope of a comeback was extinguished early in the second half. DAC was reduced to 10 men in the 49th minute when Julien Eymard Bationo was sent off. Slovan capitalized almost immediately, with Gajdoš adding his second of the day in the 53rd minute to seal the 3–0 rout.
Kmeť’s performance
Matúš Kmeť began the match on the bench and was introduced by manager Branislav Fodrek in the closing stages.
- The shift: Kmeť replaced Abdoulaye Gueye in the 82nd minute.
- The context: By the time Kmeť entered the pitch, the game was effectively over. His role was primarily to see out the match and offer fresh legs on the right flank as DAC tried to prevent further embarrassment.
- Limited impact: With his team down a man and trailing by three goals, Kmeť had little opportunity to influence the attacking phase of the game.
