Bristow and Tranmere stumble in 2–1 loss to Gillingham
Ethan Bristow and Tranmere Rovers suffered a narrow 2–1 defeat to Gillingham at Priestfield Stadium on Saturday. The former Minnesota United defender was part of a Rovers squad that fell behind early and couldn’t quite complete the comeback, extending their difficult run of form in League Two.
Match recap
Gillingham came out firing on their home turf, taking the lead in the 25th minute through a volley from Ronan Hale. The hosts doubled their advantage shortly after the hour mark when Hale struck again in the 65th minute to make it 2–0.
Tranmere rallied late, finding a lifeline in the 78th minute when Charlie Whitaker pulled one back to set up a nervy finish. Despite pushing for an equalizer in the closing stages, Rovers couldn’t break down the Gillingham defense a second time, leaving Kent empty-handed.
Bristow’s performance
Ethan Bristow featured for Tranmere as they looked to bounce back from a string of inconsistent results.
- Defensive shift: Facing a Gillingham side that had struggled for goals recently, Bristow and the Tranmere backline had their hands full with the movement of Ronan Hale, who proved to be the difference-maker.
- Late push: The visitors improved significantly after a triple substitution in the second half, but the two-goal deficit proved too steep to overcome.
