Bristow features as Tranmere falls flat at home against Salford City

It was a frustrating afternoon at Prenton Park for Tranmere Rovers, who slumped to a 2–0 home defeat against Salford City on Saturday. Former Minnesota United defender Ethan Bristow played the full 90 minutes for the hosts, but his efforts on the left flank weren’t enough to spark a stagnant Rovers attack that failed to find the back of the net.

Match recap

The first half was a cagey affair, with neither side able to assert dominance. Tranmere created the better openings early on, but the deadlock remained unbroken at the interval.

The game turned in the second half as Salford City seized control. The visitors broke the deadlock in the 68th minute when Jorge Grant finished off a move orchestrated by Ryan Graydon. Just seven minutes later, in the 75th minute, Salford doubled their lead through Kelly N’Mai, who converted a pass from Luke Garbutt to silence the home crowd.

Tranmere pushed for a way back into the game late on, but Salford’s defense held firm to secure a comfortable away victory, leaving Rovers languishing in the bottom half of the League Two table.

Bristow’s performance

Ethan Bristow started at left-back (operating as a wing-back at times) and was one of Tranmere’s more active outlets, though the end product was often lacking from the collective unit.

  • 90-minute shift: Bristow played the duration of the match, tasked with providing width on the left while containing Salford’s dangerous winger Rosaire Longelo.
  • Creative flashes: He nearly created a goal right before halftime, whipping in a cross that found Cameron Norman, whose header was blocked in the box. In stoppage time (90+9′), he teed up Kristian Dennis for a late effort, but the shot drifted high and wide.
  • Defensive frustration: While he wasn’t directly at fault for the goals, the Tranmere defense as a whole struggled to cope with Salford’s movement in the second half. Bristow conceded a few fouls in midfield as he tried to break up play, but escaped a booking.
