Aziel Jackson returns to MLS: Vancouver Whitecaps acquire former Loon on loan

Former Minnesota United prospect Aziel Jackson is returning to Major League Soccer. The Vancouver Whitecaps announced on Friday that they have acquired the 24-year-old attacking midfielder on loan from Polish champions Jagiellonia Białystok.

The deal keeps Jackson in Vancouver through June 2026 and includes an option to make the transfer permanent.

A Return to North America

The move marks a quick return to MLS for “AZ,” who left the Columbus Crew just last summer to test himself in Europe. Jackson joined Jagiellonia Białystok in July 2025, where he made 11 appearances across all competitions, including featuring in the UEFA Conference League.

Despite the European experience, the opportunity to return to a prominent role in MLS proved enticing. For Vancouver, the acquisition adds a proven, dynamic attacker who is already well-adjusted to the league’s physical and tactical demands.

“Aziel is a player we are very familiar with from his time in the league, and he understands the demands of MLS,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director. “He is a dynamic, versatile attacker who will provide another option going forward. Aziel will join the camp in Spain in the coming days, and we look forward to welcoming him into our environment.”

The MNUFC connection

Minnesota United fans will remember Jackson as a standout for MNUFC2 during the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro season in 2022. He was a dominant force for the “Twos,” recording 10 goals and seven assists in 23 appearances and earning Best XI honors.

Despite his success at the developmental level, Jackson struggled to break into the Loons’ first team, eventually leading to a trade to St. Louis CITY SC. He flourished in St. Louis, becoming a breakout star with his high-pressing energy and creativity before moving to the Columbus Crew, where he was part of the squad that won the 2024 Leagues Cup.

What he brings to Vancouver

Jackson joins a Whitecaps side looking to bolster its attack for the 2026 campaign. Known for his ability to play centrally as a No. 10 or out wide, his versatility will give head coach Vanni Sartini options in the final third.

  • MLS experience: 68 regular-season appearances (5 goals, 7 assists) between St. Louis and Columbus.
  • European pedigree: recent experience in the Polish Ekstraklasa and UEFA Conference League.
  • Style: High-work-rate playmaker with elite dribbling ability in tight spaces.

Jackson is expected to join his new teammates immediately for their preseason camp in Marbella, Spain. He could make his debut for the Whitecaps as early as their season opener against Real Salt Lake on Feb. 21.
