Where are they now?: Jermaine Taylor

Today marks the 41st birthday of Jermaine Taylor, one of the foundational veterans of the Loons’ inaugural MLS squad.

As a pillar of the Jamaican national team for over a decade and a steadying hand during Minnesota United’s chaotic 2017 transition to the top flight, Taylor has traded the high-stakes pressure of the international stage for a life of mentorship and community building in Texas.

Since retiring from professional play at the end of the 2021 season with Austin Bold FC, Taylor has remained in the Austin area. He has transitioned into a coaching and ambassadorial role, working with local youth academies to share the tactical wisdom gained from over 100 international caps.

For fans in Minnesota, Taylor remains a key figure in the “Class of 2017″—the group of veterans tasked with teaching a young club how to survive the rigors of Major League Soccer.
