Where are they now?: Miguel Tapias

Today marks the 29th birthday of Miguel “Micky” Tapias, a player whose arrival in 2023 provided the defensive stability the Loons had been craving for years. After two seasons anchoring the backline at Allianz Field, Miguel Tapias made a high-profile return to his home country in late 2024, joining one of the most storied clubs in North America.

In December 2024, Minnesota United finalized a transfer for Tapias to C.D. Guadalajara (Chivas) for a fee reportedly exceeding $1 million. The move represented a significant success for the Loons’ scouting department, as Tapias had arrived on a free transfer from Pachuca and developed into a million-dollar asset in just two seasons.

Since moving to Chivas, Micky has stepped into the pressure cooker of Liga MX with veteran composure. Despite a few minor injury setbacks in late 2025, he remains a key figure in the Guadalajara rotation, often utilized for his aerial dominance and his rare ability as a left-footed center-back.

For Minnesota fans, seeing him compete in the biggest matches in Mexico is a reminder of the “scouting gem” he proved to be during his time in the North.
