Report: Joseph Rosales traded to Austin FC
A significant piece of the Loons’ roster is reportedly on the move. According to a report from the Pioneer Press, Minnesota United has reached an agreement to trade versatile defender/midfielder Joseph Rosales to Austin FC.
The move marks the end of a standout tenure for the 25-year-old Honduran international in Minnesota. Since joining the club on loan in 2021 before completing a permanent transfer in 2022, Rosales evolved into one of the most reliable “Swiss Army knives” in the Loons’ lineup. Whether deployed as a left-back, a wing-back, or in the central midfield, his delivery on set pieces and high-energy play made him a fan favorite and a frequent fixture on the MLS Team of the Matchday.
Trade details
On Dec. 23, MNUFC disclosed that the club traded Rosales in exchange for $1.5 million in cash. Rosales had recently signed a contract extension through 2027, making him a high-value asset for an Austin side looking to bolster their wide defensive options.
For the Loons, this move likely signals a shift in the defensive rotation. With Anthony Markanich showing promise and the club potentially looking to clear cap space for further reinforcements during the winter window, the front office appears ready to capitalize on Rosales’ rising market value.
