From MNUFC2 to the big stage: Britton Fischer signs MLS contract
Minnesota United has officially announced the signing of defender Britton Fischer from its MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, MNUFC2. The 21-year-old center-back has earned a one-year MLS contract through the 2026 season, with club options for 2027 and 2028.
For Fischer, this moment is the culmination of three years of hard work within the clubās developmental pathway. āI’m very excited to have this opportunity to sign with the First Team; it has been one of my goals ever since I arrived in Minnesota,ā Fischer said. āIām thankful for the club and staff for having confidence in me and bringing me in.ā
A mainstay in the development system
Since joining MNUFC2 from North Carolina FC in February 2023, the 6’4″ defender has been a pillar of the “Twos” back line. His journey to the senior squad is backed by an impressive body of work:
- 78 total appearances and 71 starts for MNUFC2.
- Over 6,200 minutes played across all competitions.
- Played every minute of the team’s historic 2025 playoff run to the Western Conference Final.
Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Khaled El-Ahmad praised Fischerās growth, noting, āBritton has developed into a dependable player on the back line. He is yet another example of continued player development at Minnesota United, and this contract celebrates the collective efforts of the coaches and staff.ā
What he brings to the senior squad
Fischer is a towering presence at center-back, known for his aerial dominance and his ability to read the game under pressure. During the 2025 season, he recorded 29 appearances, scoring one header goal and providing two assists. His transition to the first team provides Head Coach Eric Ramsay with a young, proven defender who already understands the clubās system and culture.
Having made his professional debut at just 17 with North Carolina FC, Fischer brings a level of experience that belies his age. As the Loons look to build on a record-breaking 2025 season, Fischerās promotion reinforces the clubās commitment to internal growth and providing a clear path from the academy and MNUFC2 to the MLS stage.
Welcome to the first team, Britton!
