MNUFC acquires rising midfielder Peter Stroud in trade with RBNY
Minnesota United FC announced a significant move to strengthen the midfield for the upcoming season, acquiring rising star Peter Stroud from Red Bull New York.
The 23-year-old central midfielder joins the Loons in exchange for $475,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money (GAM), with RBNY retaining a sell-on percentage should Stroud be transferred outside of MLS in the future.
Why Stroud is a key addition
At just 23, Peter Stroud arrives in Minnesota with a profile that perfectly fits the club’s ambition: a young, dynamic, and technically gifted player with significant MLS experience already under his belt.
As MNUFC Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Khaled El-Ahmad noted: “Peter brings valuable MLS experience and a strong understanding of the league’s demands, with potential to improve. We expect him to apply that familiarity to elevate our midfield, while his energy and upside will be important assets as we prepare for the upcoming season.”
Stroud has been a reliable engine room presence for Red Bull New York since signing as a Homegrown Player in 2023. Over his tenure, he racked up 83 appearances across all competitions, notably starting the 2024 MLS Cup Final—a tremendous achievement that speaks to his trust and maturity in high-pressure games. His defensive work rate and tactical intelligence are exactly what the Loons need to solidify the center of the pitch.
A decorated journey to the Twin Cities
Though a native of Chester, New Jersey, Stroud’s path has been one of elite development, including time in the New York Red Bulls Academy and abroad with West Ham United’s U18 side.
His collegiate career at Duke University was legendary, where he became the first player in ACC history to be named ACC Midfielder of the Year in back-to-back seasons. This proven pedigree of individual excellence and leadership is exactly what Minnesota will look to utilize in the heart of the squad.
Ready for Allianz Field
For Stroud, the move is an exciting opportunity to join a club with big goals:
“I’m super excited to get to work for Minnesota United and play in front of the passionate fans at Allianz Field next season,” Stroud said. “The club had an amazing season last year and has big ambitions. I look forward to helping the team win games and compete for trophies.
Please join us in giving a warm Loons welcome to Peter Stroud! We look forward to seeing his energy, skill, and commitment shine under the lights at Allianz Field.
Welcome to Minnesota, Peter!
Once a Loon, always a Loon!
