Hassani Dotson signs with Seattle Sounders

In a move that stings just a little bit more than your average departure, the Seattle Sounders announced today that they have signed former Minnesota United midfielder Hassani Dotson to a contract through the 2027 season.

Homecoming for Hassani

While seeing any Loon leave is tough, seeing a fan favorite head west to a conference rival—and his hometown club—brings a mix of sadness and understanding. Dotson, a Federal Way, Washington native, returns to the Pacific Northwest after seven memorable seasons in Saint Paul.

From second-round steal to midfield staple

It’s hard to overstate just how important Dotson was to the culture of Minnesota United. Drafted 31st overall in the 2019 SuperDraft, he wasn’t supposed to be a star. Yet, from his very first season, he forced his way onto the field with a tenacity and versatility that became his trademark.

He was the ultimate “Swiss Army Knife.” Need a defensive midfielder? Hassani was there. Need a right back? Hassani had it covered. Need someone to make a late-game attacking run? He was your guy.

“Bangers Only”

But what we will miss most is the audacity. Dotson didn’t score simple tap-ins; he scored screamers. His rookie season gave birth to the “Bangers Only” legend, with stunning long-range goals against teams like LA Galaxy and… yes, the Seattle Sounders. It’s ironic that the very team he punished with one of his trademark strikes is now the team he’ll be fighting for.

More than just a player

Dotson’s legacy in Minnesota goes beyond the stats (176 appearances, roughly 18 goals). We watched him grow up here. We watched him propose to his now-wife Petra on the Allianz Field pitch—a moment that remains one of the most heartwarming in club history. We watched him battle back from a devastating ACL tear in 2022 and a meniscus injury in 2025, always returning with the same grit and determination.

A tough goodbye

Losing Dotson to free agency is the harsh reality of MLS, but his move to Seattle makes sense. It’s a homecoming for him and a fresh start after an injury-plagued 2025 campaign.

So, to Hassani: Thank you for the bangers, the versatility, and the heart you showed every time you put on the Black and Blue. We wish you nothing but the best in Seattle—except, of course, when you play the Loons.

Once a Loon, always a Loon!
